Monroe, Va for exchange; 4th VA infantry was at Bull Run and fought in the Shenandoah Valley in Spring and Summer of 1862; wounded in action Fredericksburg, Va Dec 1862; RTD 20 May 1863; sent to Genl. Hosp 6 June 1863; RTD 28 Aug 1863; Had to resign 29 Sep 1863 on Surgeon’s Certificate; Rejoined VA 14th Cavalry Regt as a private in Co. F on 1 Apr 1864; captured on 1 Apr 1865 at Five Forks, sent to Pt. Lookout Md and released on 26 Jun 1865
