F) in the same company as his brother Joshua Byrd on 13 Jun 1861 at Harpers Ferry; promoted to Cpl on 24 Apr 1862; sent to hospital by surgeon on 17 Oct 1862 after Antietam; appointed Sgt on 15 Mar 1863; wounded in action at Chancellorsville on 12 May 1863 and died of wounds later in the day; his father Richard Byrd claimed his belongings on 14 Jul 1863 (certificate # 1448); his family received $97.57 for his backpay since death.
