L (Palmer’s) 66th Battalion NC Partisan Rangers, but combined to form 58th NC Infantry (State Troops); Enlisted 20 July 1862 at Jefferson, Ashe, NC; on 21 Nov 1862 resigned his 2nd Lt officer position for unbecoming conduct; wounded 20 Sep 1863 and sent to Floyd House Hosp, Macon, GA; furloughed 7 days till 27 Sep 1863; promoted from Pvt to Sgt, then to 3rd LT of Co. L; furloughed 40 days by Gen Johnston on 13 Apr 1864; mustered out about 1865 (See Thornton Pennington also for Co. L; Edward appears as wounded in Fayetteville Observer article)
