H on 6 Oct 1862 in WV (this is where the Regiment was fighting at the time); captured at Gettysburg on 3 Jul 1863 and appeared in the famous Matthew Brady photo of Confederate prisoners, taken 4 or 5 Jul 1863; sent to Fort McHenry, Md and confined there on 6 Jul 1863; sent to Ft. Delaware prison on 7 Jul 1863; transferred to Pt. Lookout, Md union prison on 26 Oct 1863; paroled at Pt Lookout and exchanged on 18 Feb 1865 due to extremely poor health; arrived at Camp Lee, Richmond, VA on 28 Feb 1865; sent immediately to Hospital #9 in Richmond, VA and admitted for 30 days or more; must have been part of the surrender then returned home to Grayson Co., Va.
